Over 4,000 mourners came out to Philadelphia’s Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church on Saturday morning to bid farewell to R&B great Teddy Pendergrass.
According to NBC Philadelphia, Teddy Pendergrass was laid to rest in his hometown of Philadelphia, PA a week after losing his battle with colon cancer. Among the thousands of fans that came to say goodbye to the R&B legend were several celebrities who performed songs by Pendergrass. R&B singer/actor Tyrese, who was a pallbearer during the funeral, sang at the service as did Philly native Musiq Soulchild. Melba Moore, Bunny Sigler, Gerald Austin and Lyfe Jennings also performed.
“What you decide to do for others is what you should mainly be remembered for. You can’t take any of the valuables with you when you go,” Tyrese said.
The funeral was followed by a private burial at West Laurel Hill Cemetery in Bala Cynwyd.
R.I.P. Mr. Pendergrass.
